Our Story

The Café has been a cornerstone of Leavenworth, Kansas since October 2005. Founded in the historic Abernathy Building near the Centennial Bridge, the café began as a weekday breakfast and lunch spot serving daily specials, fresh sandwiches, soups, salads, and hearty home-style meals. Open Monday through Friday, The Café quickly became a local favorite, known for its warm atmosphere and consistently good food.

What started as a small community café grew into something more: a kitchen built on a genuine commitment to feeding people well, at every stage of life and for every occasion.

Our History

Over more than two decades, The Café has grown and evolved alongside the Leavenworth community. Since opening in 2005, the business has moved locations several times across the city, each move bringing The Café closer to where it needed to be. Through those changes, the team's dedication to quality and community never wavered.

In 2015, The Café stepped back from serving the public to focus on catering and to cook for the Meals on Wheels program alongside the Council on Aging, bringing home-prepared meals to seniors and neighbors throughout the Leavenworth area.

Starting Monday, October 5, 2026, The Café is open to the public again as an order-and-go deli at 417 South 6th St: breakfast and lunch, Monday – Friday.

What We Offer

Breakfast and lunch, Monday – Friday, 6:00 am – 2:00 pm. Order online for pickup, or order at the counter.

  • Pickup catering: lunch for the office, the crew or the whole family, packed and ready at the counter
  • Drop-off: in some cases we can bring it to you; call ahead
  • A large order? Talk with us first: give us a call or stop by.

For more than 10 people, please give us at least 12 hours’ notice. Let us know about any allergies or dietary needs when you order. We take cash, check or card.
